Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office issued a statement this morning regarding the US president's proposal and the multi-phase plan for a ceasefire.
The statement emphasizes that Israel's conditions for ending the war in Gaza have not changed.
According to her, the destruction of Hamas' military capabilities, the release of all hostages and ensuring that Gaza no longer poses a threat to Israel are the conditions that must be met before the end of the war.
"Israel's conditions for ending the war have not changed: destroying Hamas' military and governance capabilities, releasing all hostages, and ensuring that Gaza no longer poses a threat to Israel. We will continue to insist that these conditions to be met before a permanent ceasefire is established ," the statement said.
The notion that Israel will agree to a permanent ceasefire before these conditions are met is a non-starter.
The reaction from Netanyahu probably does not bode well for Joe Biden's cease-fire proposal, which includes a six-week halt in military operations while a permanent end to the fighting is negotiated.
