Some 170,000 people have taken to a Madrid square to protest against the Catalan amnesty law that has allowed Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez to secure a second term in office.
This protest has also been joined by the right-wing parties that opposed the agreement on the formation of the government.
Sanchez's decision to agree to the proposed amnesty, which he had opposed in the run-up to the election, has angered his political opponents, accusing him of hypocrisy, cynical maneuvering and putting his political survival ahead of the country's interests.
The move has also angered many Spaniards on the left and right.
Some protesters carried placards that read, "separation of powers", "traitors" and "not in my name", the demonstrators also chanted "Sánchez resigns".
