The Spanish police seized four tons of cocaine hidden in sacks of rice in the port of Barcelona during an operation where 8 people were arrested.
This criminal network had an infrastructure in Paraguay to process the drug into a powder, package it in plastic bags and place it in rice bags that were sewn by hand, for later shipment to Europe.
The containers arrived at the port of Barcelona earlier this year, but the cocaine cargo was discovered recently when smugglers moved the containers.
Authorities in Paraguay and Britain seized another five tons of cocaine smuggled by the same criminal organization in two separate raids in recent months.
Three tonnes of cocaine were seized in Paraguay before the drug could be sent to Belgium in October 2023, while in March British police seized two tonnes of cocaine in the port of Southampton.
