The US is playing with fire; how World War III is being threatened by the

Biden aims to do all of this by the summer so he can run as the president who stopped the war in Gaza, united the Saudis and Israelis and created a Palestinian state.

Since the creation of the state of Israel in 1948, American presidents have tried to avoid policies that could endanger the existence of this small nation.

Barack Obama, known as Israel's enemy, came closest to Iran.

The presidents followed the unwritten rule because they each accepted a basic fact: That if the world's superpower America cooperated more with Israel, some of the Jewish nation's Muslim neighbors would start moves to wipe it off the map.

That daily reality was true then and remains true now, despite Israel's powerful military and despite its treaties with Egypt and Jordan and the Abraham Accords, in which four Muslim nations recognized Israel and established trade, diplomatic and of security.

These advances did not end the existential threat to Israel, because the goal has been taken by Hamas, Hezbollah, the Houthis and many other terrorist groups.

Their common patron, of course, is Iran, which finances and directs the groups' endless attacks on what it calls "Little Satan."

These attitudes are essential to understanding the unique and grave dangers posed by Joe Biden's recent actions.

Known for being consistently wrong about world events, the president is undertaking a combination of ideas that would create an unprecedented threat to Israel.

And he's doing it with great speed because he wants to win re-election.

To appeal to Muslim-American voters and radical young Democrats, many of whom are anti-Semites who side with Hamas, Biden is pushing Israel for a cease-fire in Gaza and then to accept the creation of a Palestinian state .

With Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu strongly opposed on both counts, Biden is offering him a "sweetener," which is the normalization of Saudi Arabia's relations with the Jewish state.

In return, the Saudis will receive American civilian nuclear technology and a promise of military protection for the monarchy.

The Saudis are also expected to pump more oil to prevent US gasoline prices from rising during the campaign.

Biden aims to do all of this by the summer so he can run as the president who stopped the war in Gaza, united the Saudis and Israelis and created a Palestinian state.

Israel's objections and many practical obstacles aside, the biggest wild card is Iran, which has never given Biden a single reason to believe it will abandon its pursuit of nuclear weapons and its intent to eliminate Israel.

The fact that Tehran's proxies are attacking and killing American troops proves that it has not given up on jihadist determination, which includes regional dominance and the expulsion of America from the Middle East.

The issue is non-starter

For Israel, the idea of a Palestinian state on its borders is extremely premature without the total destruction of Hamas.

Even then, a separate state is unthinkable without a Palestinian constituency for a peaceful two-state solution, which does not exist.

Without this, a new state would reward the terrorists for October 7 and give them the guarantee that if they repeated the action they would win again.

No government in Israel trusts the United Nations to govern a new state or provide security.

The possibility that Iran could fill the vacuum and gain control of a Palestinian state makes it a threat to most Israelis, including Netanyahu's opponents.

Biden's convoluted moves extend a pattern I've noted, that his support for Israel since the Hamas attack has been a jumble of contradictions.

With one hand he supports Israel militarily by sending weapons and sending two aircraft carrier strike groups to the region.

On the other hand, he downplays the campaign against Hamas with public criticism of civilian casualties in Gaza and criticizes the government and has vetoed several important decisions.

All the while, he refuses to hold Iran accountable for the actions of his proxies and still entertains the fantasy of fulfilling Obama's goal of bribing him to reach a nuclear pact.

Biden has not realized that the lifting of sanctions and the payment of $6 billion in ransom for the hostages enabled Iran to finance its aggressions against its closest ally and to obstruct the transportation of goods in the Red Sea.

Soft attitudes towards Tehran

Although Biden ordered the military to attack proxy groups in Iraq and Syria on Friday a week after a drone strike killed three American service members in Jordan, he is still letting Iran off the hook.

The president is repeatedly stating that he is trying to avoid a wider war, but he is sending a message to Iran that he has thwarted it by directly punishing its aggression.

Out of fear, he is treating the symptoms and not the disease.

Until this changes, Iran has no reason to stop terrorizing Israel and destabilizing the region.

However, in another step to woo anti-Israel voters to his campaign, Biden on Thursday ordered sanctions against four Israeli nationals who he said committed violence against Palestinians in the West Bank territories.

The actual significance is small, but the symbolism of an American president siding with the Palestinians and punishing the Jews is huge for both groups.

The separate state that Biden envisions would include Gaza and most, if not all, of the West Bank, although it is not clear what will happen to the nearly 500,000 Israelis who live there.

Past discussions have assumed that no Jews would be welcome to stay, even though some 2 million Arabs are citizens of Israel.

Would the US approve of ethnic cleansing in a new state?

It is also not clear what would happen in Jerusalem, with both Jews and Palestinians claiming it as their capital.

Despite these huge unknowns, the president ordered the State Department to study how a Palestinian state could be created after the war ended.

Reports say he also wants the UN to admit "Palestine" as a full member instead of an observer, and plans to encourage other countries to recognize it immediately.

It is not known if Biden would go that far, but he is desperate to defeat Donald Trump.

Regardless, the ultimate problem is that neither Iran nor any of its proxies have given up on their dream of eliminating Israel.

Under these circumstances, Biden is playing with fire, one that could consume the Middle East and mark the start of World War III. /Adapted "Pamphlet" from "New York Post"
