The World Health Organization (WHO) has warned of serious environmental and health risks in Iran following recent attacks on oil facilities in the country.
WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus stated on social media that the phenomenon of "oil-mixed rain" has also been reported in some areas of Iran.
According to him, American and Israeli attacks on oil infrastructure are polluting the country's air, water and food sources. He stressed that the pollution could have particular consequences for the most vulnerable groups of the population, including children, the elderly and people with pre-existing health problems.
According to Iranian state television, over the weekend, US-Israeli attacks targeted several oil facilities in and around the capital Tehran. These attacks reportedly killed four people.
The WHO has not yet published a full assessment of the environmental and health impact of the incident. Initial information is based on reports from the field and monitoring of the situation by international organizations.
