A 'battle' scenario with snipers and heavy weaponry is being carried out by the military inside the German capital. The code name of the major Bundestag exercise is "Bollwerk Bärlin" (Berlin Bastion).
The aim is to test possible attack scenarios, but also the resilience of critical infrastructure in the German capital, such as the dense subway network, the facilities of an old chemical industry and a police operations center.

The Jungfernheide metro station was temporarily closed while the exercise is being carried out overnight from 01:00 to 04:00 in the morning, so as not to disrupt the normal operation of the metro.
Taking all necessary security measures for citizens and in coordination with the Civil Protection Agency, and in the presence of dozens of journalists, as reported by German media, the "civil war" exercise is considered critical in the context of the broader readiness exercises of the German armed forces.
The training involves soldiers who, among other things, engage in virtual sabotage exercises, simulating "armed conflict" within the urban structure, battles in narrow passages with limited visibility, evacuation of areas, transportation of the wounded, and ways to protect government facilities in Berlin.

As Lieutenant Colonel Mike Teichgraber said, the goal is to protect the "hard core" of the capital's critical infrastructure, a "paper plan" of a preventive and deterrent nature in a period of increasing threats.
For the Ministry of Defense, the Ministry of Defense Guard, which is responsible for protecting the government, is participating in the exercise. The relevant exercises, like those that took place months ago in Hamburg, are necessary to test the reflexes of the German military in practice.

As the TAZ newspaper points out, the German armed forces justify this exercise with the "tense security situation in Europe" following the start of the Russian war in Ukraine.
"No one can ignore what is happening 900 kilometers from Berlin," the lieutenant colonel said.
Another goal of the exercise is to once again send the message that the German army is capable and ready to defend itself, as the same newspaper comments.
