The first flight to transport asylum seekers to Rwanda is expected to take place after the July 4 parliamentary elections, British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak announced today.
Speaking to LBC Radio, a day after the election date was announced, Sunak emphasized that preparations had already begun.
The law, passed on April 23, aims to deport thousands of migrants to the East African country, where their asylum claims will be examined, but without the possibility of returning to Britain, regardless of the outcome.
British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak announced yesterday that a general election will be held on July 4, ending months of delays in setting a date for the election, which the opposition Labor Party is widely expected to win.
As the Prime Minister announced, the work of the House of Commons will be suspended on Friday and the Parliament will be dissolved on May 30.
The new parliament from the July 4 election will convene on July 9 and begin work on July 17.
