President Donald Trump said Friday that he will meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin very soon, but did not give an exact date.
He told reporters at the White House that he would share more details on his administration's efforts to secure a peace agreement between Russia and Ukraine at a later date.
"A lot of people are dying and I think we're getting very close to that, and we'll announce later that we're going to have a meeting with Russia, start with Russia and we'll announce the location. I think the place is going to be very popular for a lot of reasons, but we'll announce that a little later ," Trump told reporters.
The president, who had acknowledged frustration with Russia's president in recent months over the prolongation of the conflict, seemed more optimistic about the prospect of a peace deal on Friday.
"European leaders want to see peace. I believe President Putin wants to see peace, and Zelensky wants to see peace. My instinct really tells me that we have a chance for peace ," Trump concluded.
