The Ukraine Summit has begun at the White House, where President Donald Trump and his Ukrainian counterpart, Volodymyr Zelensky, have talked about ending the war, while a trilateral meeting, together with Vladimir Putin, appears to be on the horizon.
Zelensky said he is ready for this meeting, while Trump spoke about the guarantees that the US will provide to Ukraine if it accepts an end to the war.
The topic that was not touched upon at the press conference was the exchange of territories between Ukraine and Russia.
However, tonight is considered historic for the political and institutional representatives of the European Union, who have joined the talks at the White House.
Giorgia Meloni, the Italian prime minister, said there were no easy solutions. "I think we have to consider everything to guarantee peace and security for our nations. The work we are going to do today is important," Meloni said, while British Prime Minister Keir Starmer stressed that there is no need for a ceasefire to reach an end to the war.
The US president said he would speak to Putin on the phone immediately after his talks with Zelensky and European leaders. Trump did something similar with Zelensky and European leaders after he finished his meeting with Putin in Alaska.
But where could the trilateral meeting be held, if today's summit goes according to Trump's plans?
Here are three proposals. Meloni has expressed his willingness to organize the meeting in Rome, an idea he had previously floated when discussing the Trump-Putin summit.
The other proposal came from French President Emmanuel Macron, according to whom this meeting could be held in Geneva.
But Zelensky and Trump are leaning toward holding the meeting at the Vatican.
Meanwhile, Trump has an invitation from Putin to hold his next meeting with the Russian President in Moscow, as the world leaders break the ice at the Alaskan summit.
