President Donald Trump did not rule out sending US troops to Ukraine to help preserve a possible peace deal.
"We'll let you know about that, probably later today," Trump said during the meeting with Zelensky.
His opening to allowing US troops on the ground in Ukraine could make a big difference, as Ukraine considers security guarantees critical to any final peace deal with Russia.
Trump said that Europe will take the lead in securing peace, but that the US will be involved.
"They are the first line of defense, because they are there, in Europe. But we will help them. We will also be involved," he said.
Trump said that if there was a peace agreement, it would be implemented.
