As Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky grapples with a corruption scandal within his government, pressure is mounting on him to fire his powerful chief of staff, Andriy Yermak, who has led the president's office for five years.
The pressure is coming from within Zelensky's party, Servant of the People, at least that's what both Politico and Ukrainian media are reporting, citing senior Ukrainian officials and sources inside the party.
Some of them suggested that the 53-year-old former film producer could be fired today, although there is no evidence of this.
Yermak's opponents have tried to link him to the corruption scandal, although he denies any such connection. They also blame him for his role in Zelensky's failed attempt to strip the national anti-corruption authority (Ukraine's SPAK) of its independence.
But the dissatisfaction with Yermak's rivals goes deeper than that and is also based on the vast decision-making and oversight power that the unelected official has amassed in Kiev, reports say.
On the other hand, unfazed by the rumors, Yermak posted today on his Telegram channel that he had arrived in Turkey, where Zelensky will meet with Erdogan, and added that he was "in constant contact" with the US government with the aim of achieving peace.
