Israel and Lebanon are expected to begin direct talks in the coming days, the Israeli newspaper Haaretz reported, citing sources familiar with the matter. According to the report, representatives from the two countries are expected to meet soon for the first time since the escalation of the conflict linked to the Iran-Israel war, which has drawn Lebanon deeper into the conflict.

The focus of the talks is expected to be on the cessation of fighting on Lebanese territory and the disarmament of the Iranian-backed Hezbollah group.

Jared Kushner, the son-in-law of US President Donald Trump, is playing a key role in Washington's diplomatic efforts, leading the US mediation. The Israeli delegation is expected to be led by Ron Dermer, a close aide to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The talks could take place in neutral locations such as Cyprus or Paris.

Earlier today, French President Emmanuel Macron stated that France is ready to host negotiations in Paris, noting that the Lebanese government has expressed readiness for direct talks with Israel and calling this an opportunity that must be seized for a lasting solution.

Recall that Israel has intensified attacks in Lebanon, causing the displacement of more than 800,000 people and the death of about 700 people. Meanwhile, the Lebanese government has accused Hezbollah of actions that have put the country at risk, while expressing interest in a lasting security agreement with Israel under international supervision.

However, some Israeli sources have expressed skepticism, stressing that the priority remains weakening Hezbollah militarily, even though diplomacy is gaining ground with American pressure.
