At least 32 people were killed yesterday evening as Israeli forces struck Gaza, despite a ceasefire agreement announced a few hours earlier.
Palestinian journalist and Al Jazeera reporter Anas al-Sharif, reporting from northern Gaza, said last night was a "terrible night."
He wrote in a post on X that "The pace of bombing has increased dramatically in recent hours and with it the number of dead and injured has increased to an unprecedented level."
Photos showed many wounded, including children, being transported to hospital after an Israeli attack on tents housing displaced Palestinians.
The complex ceasefire agreement between Israel and the militant group Hamas, which controls Gaza, was announced yesterday after mediation by Qatar, Egypt and the US, and 15 months of bloodshed that devastated the coastal territory and ignited the Middle East region.
The agreement outlines an initial six-week ceasefire with a gradual withdrawal of Israeli forces from the Gaza Strip, where tens of thousands have been killed. Hostages taken by Hamas will be released in exchange for Palestinian prisoners held by Israel.
