The tension that Brexit produced in the relations between the European Union and Great Britain, which were sold out after a few years, seems to have found ground to return.
The reason is a decision by Brussels that has blocked an agreement, which would allow official London to turn back to France, the asylum seekers who cross the "La Manche" channel.
Official records show that the rejection came from one of the most trusted aides to the president of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen.
German politician Bjoern Siebert told senior British officials that the bloc will refuse to consider signing a 'return deal' after Brexit.
Siebert, who is von der Leyen's chief of staff, slammed the defiant refusal in the face of National Security Adviser Sir Tim Barrow in a face-to-face meeting earlier this year.
The Daily Mail has published an internal British government memo outlining the outcome of the meeting between Sir Tim and Siebert, with the Briton saying of the EU official: "He emphasized that the Commission is not open to a UK-EU readmission agreement".
But Brussels disputed the version of events set out in the memorandum disclosed by the British media.
"Siebert never said what is claimed," said a spokesman for the European Commission.
