US President Donald Trump has stated that the main objective of the agreement with Iran is to guarantee that Tehran never possesses nuclear weapons.
"The only thing that really matters to me is that Iran will never have a nuclear weapon, and the deal says that loud and clear," Trump said.
He stressed that the agreement prohibits Iran from developing, acquiring or acquiring nuclear weapons in any form.
"They're not going to develop it. They're not going to buy it. They're not going to do anything with it. And if they do, they're going to suffer incredible consequences ," the US president declared.
Trump warned that any attempt by Iran to obtain nuclear weapons would face a harsh response from the United States.
"He says 'all hell will break loose' if Iran ever gets a nuclear weapon," adding that this was the main reason he supported the deal.
"That's why I came in and that's why I agreed to sign," Trump said.
The US president also denied that he had sought regime change in Iran, despite previous statements calling for Iranians to take control of their government.
"I don't believe in regime change... I've seen regime changes for years, they never work," he declared.
Trump also commented on Iran's stockpile of enriched uranium, which Vice President JD Vance had earlier said the US would help remove under the peace deal. "We're going to go get it," Trump said.
He further explained the technical difficulties associated with transporting uranium.
"But going to get it, it's a big deal because they say only China and we have the equipment where you can get it. The whole mountain has collapsed at the top. We have cameras on it," the American president said.
Although he downplayed the economic importance of enriched uranium, Trump said that control over it has significant psychological value.
"You could argue: why are you even bothering? Because it's not really worth it... It's not really worth it. But I think psychologically, we want to get it," he declared.
