Donald Trump warns that US forces will remain around Iran until the full implementation of the agreement he describes as "real"
US President Donald Trump warned that US forces will remain deployed in and around Iran until what he calls "the real deal" is fully implemented.
In a post on the Truth Social platform, he threatened stronger attacks on Iran if this agreement is not respected, just two days after a fragile ceasefire was reached.
"All American ships, aircraft, and military personnel, equipped with additional ammunition, weapons, and everything else necessary for the lethal pursuit and destruction of an already significantly weakened enemy, will remain in their positions in and around Iran until the real agreement that has been reached is fully implemented."
If, for whatever reason, it is not respected, which is extremely unlikely, then the attacks will resume, bigger, better and more powerful than ever before. This was agreed long ago, despite false rhetoric to the contrary, no nuclear weapons and the Strait of Hormuz will be open and secure.
Meanwhile, our great army is resupplying and resting, while in fact it eagerly awaits its next invasion. America is back!”
What does Trump mean by "the real deal"?
Reports on the two-week ceasefire between the US and Iran are conflicting. Disagreements focus mainly on different versions of a 10-point plan that is expected to mark the end of the conflict.
Trump declares that there is only one set of “core points” acceptable to the US. He has made clear what he wants as part of this “real deal”: “no nuclear weapons and the Strait of Hormuz to be open and secure.”
Several versions have been presented by the Iranian side. Iranian state media published a version that includes a cessation of hostilities in Iran, Iraq, Yemen and Lebanon, the opening of Hormuz and a full commitment to the lifting of US sanctions.
A 10-point plan by Iran's Supreme National Security Council later emerged, adding issues such as uranium enrichment and maintaining Tehran's control over the Strait of Hormuz. The uranium enrichment demands were later removed from the English translation of the statement.
Trump's tweet did not mention the ceasefire that includes Lebanon, an element that remains one of the main points of disagreement over the terms of the ceasefire agreement.
