Trump attacks '60 Minutes' journalist live: I'm not a rapist,
Donald Trump

US President Donald Trump, in an interview with CBS's "60 Minutes," harshly attacked journalist Nora O'Donnell and took a stance on political violence in the United States.

The CBS anchor read excerpts from Trump's writings by the alleged attacker, which did not mention his name but included the phrase: "I am no longer willing to allow a pedophile, rapist and traitor to stain my hands with his crimes."

The president's reaction was immediate and strong.

"I'm not a rapist. I haven't raped anyone. I'm sorry, I'm not a pedophile," he said.

"You are reading this nonsense from a sick man that you are associating me with, things that have nothing to do with me. I am completely exonerated," he added, adding that the journalist "should be ashamed."

"You shouldn't read this on '60 Minutes.' You're a disgrace," he said.

It is noted that a federal civil court has found Donald Trump liable for sexual assault and defamation against author E. Jean Carroll.

The president has also been criticized for his relationship with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, although he claims that the information that has been made public "exonerates" him, while authorities have not charged him with any wrongdoing in connection with the case.

"Political violence has always existed"

The American president argued that political violence in the country has not necessarily increased compared to the past.

"If you look back 20, 40, 100, 200 or 500 years, it's always been there. People are being killed, injured, hurt.  I'm not sure if it's more today than it was then," he added.

At the same time, he blamed Democrats for the political climate, accusing them of using inflammatory rhetoric.
