United States President Donald Trump has decided to extend sanctions against Russia related to the war in Ukraine for another year. The decision was published in the US Federal Register.
In the document, Trump confirms the continuation of the state of emergency declared by Executive Order 13660. This act includes maintaining in force the sanctions packages approved in different years by American presidents, specifically in 2014, 2018 and 2022.
According to the decision, all restrictive measures will remain active after March 6, 2026. The US administration assesses that the actions and policies included in these orders pose a threat to US national security and foreign interests.
Washington launched sanctions against Moscow in March 2014, following developments in Ukraine and the annexation of Crimea. Over the years, US authorities expanded the list of entities involved, including Russian banks, companies, businessmen and officials.
Successive administrations added new measures, expanding the punitive framework in response to the escalation of the situation in Ukraine. The latest decision leaves this sanctions regime unchanged.
