A Canadian woman has been sentenced to 22 years in prison in the US for sending letters laced with the poison ricin, including to Donald Trump when he was president.
Pascal Ferrier, 55, will be sentenced to about 22 years in prison, according to the federal prosecutor's office in Washington. The deadly envelope addressed to Trump was intercepted in September 2020 before being delivered to the White House, foreign media write.
Ferrier told the court she was sorry her plan had failed and that she couldn't stop Trump. In a lengthy speech to the court, she also said she saw herself as an activist rather than a terrorist.
"I want to find peaceful means to achieve my goals," added Ferrier.
The FBI found her fingerprints on the letter to Trump, which asked him to drop out of the presidential race.
