Orban's government announced the expulsion of two Ukrainian diplomats, accusing them of espionage, in retaliation for the arrest of two of its citizens, suspected of being spies, in western Ukraine and following Kiev's accusations of exposing a Hungarian network.
"Today we expelled two spies who were working under diplomatic cover at the Ukrainian embassy in Budapest," Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó said on Friday in a video posted on Facebook, denouncing Kiev's smear campaigns against Budapest.
The Ukrainian security service SBU announced earlier today that it had uncovered a Hungarian state-run espionage network to obtain information on Ukraine's defense.
In a statement, the SBU said it had detained two suspected agents, who, according to the Ukrainian agency, were operated by the Hungarian military intelligence service.
