Ukraine accepts US ceasefire plan, first reaction from Moscow

Russian and American officials may communicate with each other in the coming days, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova told TASS.

She made the statement after US President Donald Trump announced earlier on Tuesday that officials from the two countries could meet on Tuesday or Wednesday.

"We do not rule out contacts with US representatives within the next few days," Zakharova said in response to a question on the subject.

Trump also said he planned to call Russian President Vladimir Putin in the next two days to discuss the situation in Ukraine. According to the US president, "it takes two to tango."

Earlier on Tuesday, U.S. and Ukrainian negotiating teams held talks in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. A joint statement after the talks said, among other things, that Kiev was ready to agree to a 30-day ceasefire and sign a minerals deal with Washington. In return, the U.S. promised to immediately resume providing military assistance and intelligence sharing to Ukraine.

The American team was led by Secretary of State Marco Rubio and National Security Advisor Mike Waltz. Ukraine was represented by Vladimir Zelensky's chief of staff, Andrey Yermak, Foreign Minister Andrey Sybiga, and Defense Minister Rustem Umerov.
