
The European Commission has given "a positive assessment" to the second tranche of 4.1 billion euros for Kiev in the framework of aid to Ukraine. The decision will now have to be approved by the EU Council.
" The Commission has concluded that Ukraine has satisfactorily fulfilled the nine reform indicators agreed for this payment. These reforms cover areas such as the fight against corruption, the business environment, the labor market, regional policy, the energy market and environmental protection. The transfer to Ukraine will take place after the approval of this decision by the [EU] Council and the approval of a payment decision by the commission ," the statement said.
The European Commission noted that once approved by the council, the decision would bring the total funds disbursed in 2024 in support of the Ukraine Plan to 16.1 billion euros.
Earlier, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen wrote on social media platform X that the commission had approved a new payment of four billion euros from the Ukraine Facility.
The European Union Facility for Ukraine is a €50 billion financial assistance program established at the end of 2023 for the period 2024-2027.
