
The heat wave has covered a large part of Europe, but not only.
High temperatures have been recorded in Madrid, Spain where several cities are on extreme heat alert, prompting authorities to increase calls for the population to protect themselves from the sun.
According to meteorologists, the thermal values are expected to reach 40 degrees Celsius, causing the authorities to issue warnings in about 13 cities. Residents of Barcelona packed the beaches as scorching temperatures swept the country.
Italy is also affected by the heat, where the Mediterranean island of Sardinia is expected to be one of the most affected regions with temperatures rising even more. A heat wave has hit South Asia, affecting millions of people. Dozens have died in northern India and many have been hospitalized with heat-related illnesses. In neighboring Pakistan, temperatures have soared to 50 degrees Celsius.
Beijing issued a red alert for high temperatures in most areas of the city. In a square in central Beijing, people took advantage of fountains and large umbrellas set up to escape the heat.
The heat wave is expected to continue and temperatures may continue to rise, according to the Beijing Meteorological Service.
The extreme weather conditions have also affected many sectors of the economy especially in India where production has been severely damaged.
