A serious air accident has occurred in Poland during rehearsals for the Radom Air Show, which was scheduled to be held this weekend. A Polish Air Force F-16 fighter jet crashed near the runway at the Radom air base and burst into flames, killing the pilot.
The incident occurred at around 17:30 local time, when the pilot was performing advanced maneuvers as part of demonstrations planned for the public. The deceased pilot, Major Maciej Krakowian, was part of the Tiger Demo aerobatic unit and one of the most recognizable figures in the Polish Air Force. His loss has been described as a heavy blow to the Polish military and the military aviation community.
Immediately after the accident, authorities decided to cancel the Radom Air Show, one of the most important aviation events in Eastern Europe and which was expected to attract thousands of domestic and foreign visitors. The decision was made for safety reasons and to honor the memory of the pilot.
