Visit to Argentina, Netanyahu risks arrest

Human rights lawyers in Argentina have filed a criminal complaint in federal courts, seeking the arrest of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu if he violates the country's territory.

The news comes after reports of a possible visit in September, which has not yet been confirmed by the government.

According to the complaint, which was reviewed by Reuters, Netanyahu and Israeli political and military authorities are being investigated for an episode that occurred on March 23, 2025, when 15 people were executed, including some of the first responders who were helping victims of an explosion.

Argentine human rights lawyers Rodolfo Yanzon and Raji Sourani, head of the Palestinian Center for Human Rights, stated: Netanyahu is held criminally responsible for engaging in war crimes, for intentionally causing death by starvation; as well as for crimes against humanity, including murder, persecution and other inhumane acts.

This is not the first time that Netanyahu's arrest has been requested in Argentina; a similar request was submitted in early August by the Association of State Employees (ATE) and the human rights organization HIJOS.

Netanyahu is facing global pressure over Israel's military offensive in Gaza, which has caused thousands of Palestinian casualties and displaced most of the population.

Meanwhile, charges of genocide and war crimes are being examined by the International Criminal Court and the World Court, but Israel and Netanyahu deny them.
