Russian President Vladimir Putin has admitted that members of the Wagner mercenary group were fully funded by the state.
According to Putin, Wagner was given 86.2 billion rubles or ($1 billion) from May 2022 to May 2023 alone in salaries and bonuses, which came from the defense ministry and the state budget.
"We always treated the fighters and commanders of this group with great respect, because they really showed bravery and heroism ," Putin said, adding that authorities would look into how the money paid to Wagner and his leader was spent.
Meanwhile, after the uprising that shook Russia, the Russian authorities have confirmed that Wagner will be disarmed and some of the members will come under the administration of the army.
