Russia is threatening a second Ukraine in the Balkans. The attack on Kiev started because the latter wanted to join NATO, but it seems that Moscow wants to have influence in the Balkans as well. Kosovo has openly shown that it intends to join NATO, while there have been rumors that the day may not be far when Serbia asks to be part of the alliance. However, Moscow has jumped on the attack and has issued threatening messages.
Although there is no force at all, the Russian ambassador to Serbia, Alexander Botsan-Kharchenko, has threatened today that Russia will never allow Kosovo to be in NATO.
" Obviously, Russia will not allow Kosovo to join NATO, which is actually the main goal for the West, Pristina and its Western sponsors. Given Russia's stance on non-recognition of Kosovo, our commitment to UN Security Council resolution 1244 and our support for Belgrade remained unwavering. This goal is absolutely unattainable ," he said.
On the other hand, he also focused on the risk of Serbia leaving Moscow's yoke and becoming part of NATO. The ambassador expressed sure that Belgrade will never be part of that alliance.
" Belgrade has repeatedly confirmed its official position, as far as NATO is concerned, it remains the same: the country's neutral status ," the diplomat said.
According to him, there are forces in Serbia which, contrary to the opinion of the absolute majority, think that Belgrade should think seriously about NATO membership and forget the bombing of Yugoslavia in 1999. "In this case, these are all theses and positions of Washington, expressed repeatedly by the American ambassador in Belgrade. Quite cynical, direct and rude," the ambassador noted.
Botsan-Kharchenko said earlier that the support of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe for Kosovo's application for membership reveals the degradation of the organization and proves that it is totally controlled by Washington and Brussels.
