The Workers' Party of North Korea, led by Kim Jong-un, has achieved an absolute victory in the 2026 parliamentary elections for the Supreme People's Assembly. According to official results announced by the Central Election Commission and reported by the state agency KCNA (as cited by foreign media, including South Korea's Yonhap News Agency), the Workers' Party and its allies won 99.93% of the vote, securing all 687 seats in parliament.

Voter turnout was reported at a record 99.99%, with only a small proportion of citizens, mostly abroad or at sea, unable to vote. Of the votes cast, only 0.07% were registered as against the proposed candidates, a figure rarely mentioned officially but seen as part of propaganda to show "formal freedom" in the electoral process.

The elections were held on March 15, 2026, following the 9th Congress of the Workers' Party of Korea, where Kim Jong-un was re-elected General Secretary. The new assembly is expected to hold its first session to ratify the election of the state leadership, likely re-electing Kim as Chairman of the State Affairs Commission, and may adopt significant constitutional changes, including officially designating South Korea as an "enemy state".

International observers and analysts see this process as a strictly controlled formality, without real opposition, where the vote serves to demonstrate unity and loyalty to the regime. The large changes in the list of deputies (over 70% new) are interpreted as an attempt to further strengthen Kim Jong-un's absolute control over the power structure.
