Three minors and one adult have died from the fire that broke out on the morning of February 15 in a settlement at around four o'clock in a neighborhood inhabited by Roma in Tivar, Montenegro.
The fire, which broke out at around 04:00, involved several objects and then the fire department was notified.
As prosecutor Mirjana Tankosic Vučinić told Radio Free Europe, the four dead bodies were found at the scene.
"We found four burned barracks and four bodies burned in them. The cause of the fire will be known after the assessment of the experts," she said.
The fire engulfed a makeshift neighborhood where mainly Roma live. The Council of Roma in Montenegro said that this tragedy shows how necessary it is to move Roma families from such neighborhoods.
"The fact that many families are forced to live in prefabricated shacks, without adequate conditions and security, is a serious social problem. Without proper support and protective measures, these families are exposed to a greater risk of accidents such as this fire ," the council said.
The Roma Council called on the state authorities to improve the housing conditions for the Roma population in Tivar and throughout Montenegro. /REL
