
The governor of the Bank of Albania, Gent Sejko, speaking about the economic situation in the country, stated in a press conference that the number of loans in the private sector has increased significantly.
Sejko said the growth rate peaked at 16.8% in August, remaining at the highest levels in more than a decade.
Among other things, he announced that during the last months, a reactivation of crediting in foreign currency has been noticed. He also spoke about employment in the non-agricultural private sector, saying that it increased by 1.9% in the second quarter.
Credit for the private sector marked a further acceleration during the months of July - August. The pace of growth peaked at 16.8% in August, standing at the highest level in more than a decade.
This loan has continued to cover the needs of business and Albanian families for the expansion of their consumption and investments, giving a growing contribution to the expansion of economic activity. Credit expansion continues to be supported - to the greatest extent - by the expansion of the loan portfolio in Lek. However, during the last few months, a reactivation of crediting in foreign currency has been noticed ", said Sejko.
