On this November 22, Albanians face an extraordinary challenge that touches the very essence of their national being and that transcends any administrative or ceremonial routine. It is not simply an anniversary to remember; it is a political and moral alarm, a call for immediate response. In North Macedonia, Albanians are not just demanding equality; they are the defenders of the unified alphabet and their Western orientation, which were established a century ago at the Congress of Manastir and became a symbol of an indivisible and eternal identity.
At a time when identities are tested in every institution, Albanians are experiencing a severe test. The Albanian language, the unified alphabet and the orientation towards the West are today threatened by bureaucratic silence, by the dragging out of laws and by practices that often refuse to respect linguistic equality. It is not simply a technical problem, it is not ordinary negligence; it is a silent policy aimed at diminishing public visibility and shrinking Albanian identity. The alphabet is not simply an instrument of communication; it is the body and soul of the nation, the compass of history that has oriented the Albanian people towards European values and away from the Eastern fog, making Albanianism known and respected beyond borders.
The Albanian Renaissance, responding to the call of Gjergj Qiriazi and the vision of Fishta, Mjeda, Shahin Kolonja and Mithat Frashëri, did not just gather letters to unify Albanian. They established the cultural and political boundaries of a nation, creating an identity that would resist any external pressure and any internal oblivion. The alphabet became a symbol of unity, but also a compass of Western orientation, a guide that today requires strong protection against any tendency to weaken it.
Any violation of the Albanian language today is not simply administrative negligence; it is an attack on our cultural being and sovereignty. When Albanian is not written on signs, documents, offices or when laws for its use are delayed, we are dealing with a silent policy aimed at relativizing Albanian identity. Albanian is often absent from schools, signs and public forms; in state documents it is used only selectively; in local offices every day Albanians must prove their simplest right: to speak and write their language.
There are numerous examples that prove this reality. In cities where Albanians are in the majority, official signs and billboards do not include Albanian, making the presence of the Albanian community invisible. In many administrative documents, Albanian names are misspelled or the full use of the internationally recognized alphabet is not allowed. In schools, Albanian students often encounter obstacles in using materials in their own language, while in public institutions they are often required to use the Macedonian language even for the most basic rights. In these practices, there is often a silent logic of the policy of violating Albanian identity, an attempt to transform the history and legacy of the Congress of Manastir into a forgotten routine.
The historical triangle of Albanian identity Prizren of the League, Monastery of the Alphabet and Vlora of Independence is not just history. It is a holding structure of Albanian nationality, an irreversible guide that determines our direction today and in the future. Prizren articulated the political vision, Vlora sealed state independence, while Monastery ensured the language. Without language, there would be neither Prizren nor Vlora; without respect for the alphabet there is no institutional stability and no sincere European integration. The alphabet, created with determination and dignity, today requires protection from any policy that attempts to diminish and relativize its vital role.
Clearly, today's challenges are not just bureaucratic obstacles; they constitute a silent ritual of denial of the right of Albanians to exist as a state-forming community within the state. At the Congress of Manastir, the Albanian renascentists gathered with determination and courage, establishing the letters that are today symbols of national consciousness. They did not succumb to pressure from neighbors, were not intimidated by empires, and did not leave a single step behind in the attempt to orient the Albanian people towards the West. Today, we face another form of pressure, more subtle and often hidden, but equally threatening: the institutional fading of the Albanian language and the failure to implement linguistic equality.
22 nëntorit nuk është thjesht një përvjetor. Ai nuk është vetëm një përkujtim i ngjarjes historike; është deklaratë fuqie, tribunë kundër çdo përpjekjeje për të zbehur prezencën e gjuhës shqipe dhe për të dobësuar orientimin perëndimor të shqiptarëve. Ai është thirrje për institucionet, qytetarët dhe komunitetin ndërkombëtar: të mos lejohet asnjë kompromis mbi alfabetin dhe barazinë gjuhësore. Ky përvjetor është dëshmi e pakundërshtueshme e rolit politik, kulturor dhe shtetformues të shqiptarëve, jo vetëm në histori, por edhe në arkitekturën e së ardhmes së këtij shteti.
Historia tregon se alfabeti shqip nuk u krijua thjesht për të shkruar fjalë, por për të ndërtuar një komb. Sot, kur çdo vonesë në zbatimin e barazisë gjuhësore po i mohon shqiptarëve të drejtën e tyre legjitime, ne nuk përballemi me gabime të vogla burokratike, por me sulm të drejtpërdrejtë ndaj sovranitetit kulturor dhe identitetit tonë historik. Çdo tentativë për ta relativizuar gjuhën shqipe është një kërcënim ndaj stabilitetit institucional dhe një shkelje e parimeve që orientuan shqiptarët drejt Perëndimit një shekull më parë.
Gjuha shqipe nuk është favor, nuk është privilegj, nuk është luks. Ajo është e drejtë e garantuar e komunitetit shtetformues, dhe respekti ndaj saj është tregues i integritetit demokratik dhe sinqeritetit europian të këtij shteti. Çdo shmangie nga kjo barazi nuk është gabim teknik; është sfidë politike që kërkon reagim të vendosur. Mbrojtja e gjuhës shqipe dhe e orientimit perëndimor nuk është vetëm detyrë morale ajo është imperativ historik dhe kombëtar.
Shqiptarët nuk janë thjesht dëshmitarë të historisë; ata janë mbrojtësit e së ardhmes. Çdo sulm mbi alfabetin, çdo injorim i gjuhës shqipe, çdo tentativë për të dobësuar orientimin perëndimor do të hasë në vetëdijen, dinjitetin dhe vendosmërinë e palëkundur të popullit shqiptar. Historia na mëson se kombi shqiptar u ndërtua mbi shkronja, mbi vlera dhe mbi vendosmëri; pikërisht këto do të jenë armët tona kundër çdo përpjekjeje për të shkatërruar identitetin tonë. Shqipja nuk është privilegj i dhënë, por sovranitet i fituar dhe i mbrojtur me gjak, mendje dhe zemër.
The alphabet is the compass that guides the soul of the nation, the language is a symbol of its sovereignty, and the Western orientation is the irreversible path that history has paved for the Albanians; any weakening, any hesitation, is a betrayal of the past and a threat to the future, therefore the Western orientation must be protected at all costs, like a sacred flag that waves over generations, keeping alive the hope, dignity and honor of our nation. Today, tomorrow and forever, Albanians must stand steadfast where time and the sacrifices of their ancestors have placed them, alongside the alphabet, national consciousness and common aspiration; this is our cry for the language, the alphabet and the future, all Albanians, wherever you are, unite, raise your voice and maintain an unwavering stance for the future of the nation! In our unity, wherever we are, lies the insurmountable strength of Albanians, this is our historical oath, this is the light that guides the generations to come and this is our indelible future; eternally united, determined and invincible, this is the soul of our nation, written in blood, preserved in words and protected by actions.
