Aruba, a post-election Caribbean paradise?

Aruba, a post-election Caribbean paradise?

However, it is very likely that all of this is simply a September narrative, which we have been watching for 13 years.

Nello Trocchia is a well-known journalist in Italy, who has covered the problems of organized crime for years. These days he has published a sensational book, entitled "The Unbreakables": The Albanian Mafia from Rome to the conquest of the world".

The cover of Trocchia's book, which is black, is supported by a red eagle, giving an inverted version of the Albanian colors. Reviews of the book by the journalist who writes mainly for Il Fatto Quotidiano, an organ of the "Five Star Movement", have been published in the cultural pages of several well-known dailies.

The bait to make the book interesting, according to the newspapers, is a short but unexplained plot. According to it, the book talks about a meeting in Aruba between Albanian mafia leaders and representatives of Edi Rama's government.

Trocchia does not mention names of those from the Albanian government, but in the book, or rather in the media reviews, he talks about the other side. So about the crime barons. In fact, he does not talk much, only one surname is mentioned. Shehu.

A surname that clearly has to do with a character from the 90s in the city of Vlora, who has been living in the US for years, but who has properties in the coastal city. A character who was among the supporters of Sali Berisha's government, as he was with the DP but who fled in 1997 because he clashed with Zani Çauş. His name was revived two years ago, but without a clear story of the powerful investments that were made in his properties in Vlora.

He is said to have investments in Miami, Florida, as well as in Tuscany and beyond, and is a character linked to drug trafficking.

Meanwhile, in addition to a media carousel surrounding Berisha, it was the doctor himself who increased the dose and said that it was not Edi Rama's people who went to Aruba, but the Prime Minister himself.

A serious accusation, made by a high-ranking official, even very serious. According to Berisha, Edi Rama received a government charter and went to a meeting with a group of lacs who are cocaine traffickers.

That said, it seems serious, but what is more serious is the ease with which this argument is treated. After all, if there were really serious indications, they would either be published or would go to the prosecutor's office. After all, this is not a small matter. Aruba is an island near Venezuela, a territory of the Netherlands, which is also known as an offshore zone for trade with America.

But these days it has become famous because a large contingent of DEA and US military troops have been deployed there to stop the Maduro regime's drug and arms trade in Venezuela.

But beyond all this, we are dealing with a serious accusation, whether it was Rama or his people. The opposition and its media have every opportunity to obtain official confirmations from the sources that Nello Troccia calls upon, who generally knows the Albanian mafia as "proxy" colleagues. But this does not matter. After all, what is important is that if we are talking about an event that is being marketed, it requires a deep explanation.

After all, on the cover of the book, Trocchia emphasizes that Albania is a narco-state, when only one Italian organization, the Ndrangheta, according to the journalist himself, has an annual turnover from cocaine trafficking 5 times more than Facebook. But what can Italy be called in this case?

However, this is a serious issue: one that requires follow-up, whether by the media or since the opposition started it, to continue it. To set up an investigative commission, to summon the people named in the book, all of them, and then to take the material to SPAK.

However, it is very likely that all of this is simply a September narrative, which we have been watching for 13 years. From Xhensila Maloku, Babale 1 and 2 or even the Bild soap opera, which as it turned out was a clear sponsorship scheme.

Autumnal narratives to be used as a soap opera until the new year, to justify electoral losses. In fact, we are dealing with a profound misuse of talent, because all this material shows a genius that could produce the literary masterpieces of Simenon or Dostoyevsky. And as their biggest fan, the doctor, has declared himself, if he had delved deeper, he could have produced such "noir" stories in 35 years that a whole series of detective fiction could have been published.

Except there is an asterisk in this whole narrative: the decision of the United Kingdom government to declare her Non Grata. Which does not speak at all about politics, but simply about connections to the world of drug trafficking. Another ocean worthy of literary masterpieces. But which cannot be published, at least not in this life…
