The need for unification will arise when Berisha leaves and the Democrats unite...
The Democratic Party seems to be suffering the deep crisis of its political identity, which is the lack of its leadership. A part of the parliamentary group met today and agreed that the elections for party chairman should be postponed and the existing party should be led by the Tabaku-Bardhi duo.
Tomorrow the Presidency of the Democratic Party will meet, which by law also determines the election procedures in the party and of course can take a decision contrary to those who are MPs.
There is also a third party among those who look at this whole alleged procedural battle with annoyance.
The alibi of all the "stunts" within the DP is the need for unification, which actually has no meaning, since the DP exists because there is a separation process with Berisha. If there was no need to separate from Berisha, this problem would not exist either. The need for unification will arise when Berisha leaves and the Democrats unite. Under these conditions, PD needs to strengthen its identity in relation to Berisha.
This crisis did not start now, after the elections. It started before the elections and appeared in an ugly way in the middle of the election campaign, especially in Tirana. The entire leadership of the official Democratic Party was committed to not campaigning, and they almost abandoned the Tirana candidate, Roland Bejko, and the acting chairman, Enkelejd Alibeaj, who had a clear stance against Berisha. Until the end, the bureaucrats of the party blocked the financing of the campaign and created obstacles for their every electoral activity.
The idiotic idea that PD should not run, because then Berisha will accuse them of losing to her, was the most murderous idea. Thanks to this idiocy, the Democratic Party got into the sea and was not allowed to swim, lest it wet Sali Berisha, who again could not get out without getting wet. He came out drowned.
Now that the elections are over, the bearers of this idea, who are mainly identified with the Bardhi-Tabaku duo, were thought to hold Sali Berisha to account, since he again lost deeply, even though they did not campaign. This was the argument they were making when they obstructed Roland Bejko's campaign.
Now, instead of holding Berisha accountable for damaging the votes of the democrats and creating divisions, they continue to consider those who are against Berisha in the DP a problem, and promote the rhetoric of joining Berisha.
The essence of this crisis is that DP has fallen into the hands of bureaucrats, who cannot fight, since when the elections come, they run away and stay at home, and after the elections they seek to start battles without opponents.
This is a crisis of a leadership that runs away from battles and lives behind the scenes. I have nothing against them, since that's how they built their lives, but they can't even do politics and above all, they can't create trust in anyone.
The only political identity of DP is the group of people who ran, and those who supported them. The only motive why PD can still remain as a political formation is to keep the spirit united against Berisha, until Berisha leaves politics.
The only pressure mechanism that can be exerted on Sali Berisha is the anti-Berishism demonstrated in the opposition with around 100 thousand votes in the ballot box and 250 thousand others who refused to vote for him. If this mechanism of pressure falls on Berisha, then Berisha never goes away, the loss never goes away, and union with Berisha is only union with loss.
PD is no longer the winning party. The official PD has only a temporary mission in the long-term process of restructuring the opposition, to stand as a procession mechanism against Berisha, so that every democrat will be reminded that without removing Berisha, there is no new beginning.
If it does not perform this function, it is worthless. It's good to go home. Berisha does not need them, because he has to lose even with them. I don't even know they pretend they want to join. He has taken most of them by war, even with a hu in hand, and he does not miss their humility. What they cannot do, society itself does. He takes Berisha home every time there is an election. Let them wait to do analysis after the elections.
