The large number of patriotic and cultural associations in which Albanians are organized is proof that the biggest problem we Albanians have is getting along with each other...
Prime Minister Edi Rama met representatives of 100 associations of Albanians in America in New York. This is what the ATSH announcement said. People of the opposition got tired of counting how many people were in the hall, and did it become at least 100 people to justify the number of 100 associations. But I was actually impressed by the number 100…
About 20 years ago, a group of journalists went to the USA. Part of the agenda made by the organizers was the meeting with representatives of an old Albanian patriotic association in New York. As far as I remember, it was all women who welcomed us. Most of the time of the discussion was taken up by the accusations that the association made about a group of Albanians who had broken away from their association and had created a new association. Then also the explanations of why we should not meet those of that new association and that they had to explain this to our government in Tirana, clarifying that the Albanians better represented those of this association that we were meeting.
It is not known exactly how many Albanians live in the USA, but those who try to show a large community count them from Arbëresh, and say that there are about 800 thousand.
However, it remains a very modest community if we talk about active people that can also serve as a kind of lobby. But the large number of patriotic-cultural associations in which Albanians are organized is proof that the biggest problem we Albanians have is getting along with each other.
From 3-4 associations for each city they have also set up in Canada. Even in Greece, after they fixed things with residence permits, associations sprung up in every neighborhood.
In England we are a little behind with this work, but it is expected that we will catch up there as well.
To return to the problem of those who counted the guests at the meeting with Rama... Even if there were not 100 people, surely there were 100 associations, that there may have been those representing 2-3 associations.
