The downfall of reality-show resident politicians

It is no coincidence that the US Embassy has invited young MPs from all sides and given them a training opportunity, where the hard core of world politics is: the US Congress.

May 11 increased the number of deputies for Edi Rama and reduced that for Sali Berisha. It introduced 3 new parties to the Assembly, as well as renewed a significant part of the names of the Parliament.

However, another result of the elections, which although did not bring a 180-degree change, was still a movement, is the blocking of a political model that was entering the Albanian public space with a vengeance.

The politician panelist, i.e. VIP or resident of Big Brother, where the most important thing about what he says and does is how important or famous he himself is.

Karma, as they say today, and some call it fate or the cosmos, has different ways of moving things. For example, the new parties did not enter Parliament with stars from studios and social media, but with other names who were not "residents of the house" during the long campaign quarantine, which has exceeded the official deadline.

It seems like a timid sign, but one that in all likelihood will be able to correct the cloud of a completely irrational phenomenon of the gallop of young horsemen to take their place in the luxurious stables of the Albanian political race.

The mania for becoming important as a character, rather than important political acts, led to a public bewilderment from a cacophony of behaviors and rhetoric that hit them at night. Thus, day after day, they lost hope that a class was emerging that had a different vision from the old elite or caste.

It is no coincidence that the US Embassy has invited young MPs from all parties and given them a training opportunity, where the hard core of world politics is: the US Congress. That is, the House of Representatives and the Senate, where politics is not only high-level, but also high-intensity.

This move by the US Embassy in Tirana, in addition to a contribution to helping the newcomers, is also a clear signal to the political environment, as well as to the electorate. Through this act, the US aims to take the second step of the pro-citizen movement, after the commitment and support for the justice reform.

After returning from the US, the new MPs will likely have more knowledge about the ways and tricks of politics. However, this is not the first time that our politicians have been trained in the parliaments of major Western countries, and when they came here, they have used the knowledge as a passport, not as a pad to open from time to time.

The challenge for the newcomers is precisely whether they will start to apply what they have learned in the noisiest corridors of world politics. And this will be noticeable in the first sessions of the new Parliament, which begins in early September. And where, according to probability, the most important lesson they have instilled in you is that the primary thing is not to be a famous person with many followers, but the acts they defend and the causes they support, which are weighed by time and how important they are.
