Vulgarity, the new normal on our TVs!

Vulgarity has permeated our entire culture from top to bottom.

Across cultures and throughout history, people have learned what to value by looking at those who appear successful and have public visibility. Anthropologists have documented this pattern in small societies; behavioral economists observe it in consumer markets; social psychologists see it in the identity formation of adolescents.

Therefore, the rule that "every action done in public should be a sign of respect for those present" has been considered the golden rule with the 110 Rules of Civility and Good Conduct in Society and Conversation, a text originally written by the French Jesuits. But unfortunately, this rule has been irrevocably undone.

Vulgarity is the new norm on our screens. Spending just one evening in the company of television makes it clear that vulgarity has penetrated so deeply into every level of our discourse that it can be safely called our new normal.

Vulgarity has permeated our entire culture from top to bottom. It is no longer characteristic only of the conversations and behavior of teenagers in the locker room after a football match, it has transformed into a standard characteristic, a constant performance of publicly engaged people.

Berat's brawl with Albatros in Opinion, the unsanctioned kissing of a girl by the program's commentator, the filling of debate panels with male and female analysts who do not even delve into creating the necessary and sufficient knowledge about the issues they are committed to speaking about, are signs that television has turned into the largest market for vulgarity.

The more I watch television, the more convinced I am that half the damage in this country is caused by people who want to feel successful in public.

Perhaps they don't want to do harm, just as they don't care about the harm they do. Immersed in the endless struggle to think and feel good about themselves, they either don't see, or they justify, the harm they cause to society.

Mos ndiq televizionet tona. Mos, se ta bëjnë mëndjen dhallë. Shumica e opinionistëve dhe Anal-istëve paguen për këtë. Dil pi kafe me të njohur të tu, dhe do mësosh gjëra të reja, taze, nga çdo fushë.
