SPAK has sent the audio to the US for expert examination, through which it is claimed to discover who gave the order to shoot at demonstrators in the protest of January 21, 2011, where 4 protesters were killed as a result of shooting by Republican Guard officers.
According to reports, the audio recording was filed with SPAK a few weeks ago by Mark Nika, the uncle of Aleks Nika, one of those killed in the demonstration 15 years ago.
Sources close to SPAK indicate that the audio communications of the Guard's chain of command were sent via a letter of request to a specialized laboratory in the United States of America, thanks to the assistance provided by American judicial authorities, Report TV reports.
The expert is expected to verify whether the material is authentic or not and will then move on to comparing the voices that are part of the communication.
It seems that this procedure, which is unknown how long it may last, is also holding up further investigative actions by SPAK regarding January 21, a file that is considered one of the "hottest" in the hands of prosecutors from the Special Prosecution Office.
A Supreme Court decision forced SPAK to reopen the January 21 case, based on the request of the victims' families. The registration of the criminal proceedings at SPAK was made in July 2024, but it seems that there has been a delay in the investigations since then.
Regarding January 21, SPAK has questioned almost the entire chain of command of the State Police from 15 years ago, but also of the Republican Guard, as well as political figures.
