An Albanian has been arrested by police in Italy, accused of trafficking 5 million euros in cocaine.
An anti-drug operation was conducted last Friday by the Italian Police in the Teramo area, where a full 114 kilograms of narcotics were seized, with an estimated value of over 5 million euros.
Details of the operation were made public during a press conference held this morning.
During the intervention, carried out by the Mobile Squad of the Teramo Police Department, a real drug depot was discovered in the apartment of a 33-year-old Albanian man, resident of the Val Vibrata area.
Inside the apartment, officers found 30 kilograms of cocaine, 4 kilograms of heroin and 80 kilograms of hashish, quantities that make this one of the largest anti-drug operations ever recorded in the territory of the province of Teramo.
During the search, the police also seized a diary with names and phone numbers, which is now under investigation to reconstruct the network of contacts and the structure of drug trafficking organization.
The suspect was stopped in Val Vibrata and, after further checks, the large drug shipment hidden in his apartment was discovered.
According to investigators, the narcotics were intended to supply the markets of Teramo and Ascoli, but it is not excluded that the apartment was also used as a storage base for later distribution to other regions of Italy.
Investigators do not rule out the possibility that the Albanian mafia is involved in this case, given the large amount of drugs seized. It is recalled that in October, the Carabinieri also carried out an important anti-drug operation in Roseto and several other municipalities in the area, where eight people were arrested, seven Albanian citizens and one Italian.
Investigations continue to fully uncover the criminal network and identify other persons involved in this serious criminal activity.
