A date that was expected to be ordinary ended tragically for 19-year-old Albanian Myrto, who got into her 23-year-old boyfriend's car at midnight on Easter Monday, not knowing that that night would be her last.
Within a few hours, the young woman was found unconscious in the square of Argostoli, while the circumstances of what happened during the night still remain the subject of investigation and full of questions.
According to the 23-year-old's testimony, their meeting at a rented apartment was planned as a quiet evening. However, according to him, the situation changed when the 19-year-old asked for the use of narcotics.
"I told her I know someone who deals with this kind of thing and I called ... (the former weightlifter) via Instagram and told him we wanted a piece. He came to the apartment, about 15 minutes after we called him, and brought us a bag of cocaine, and Myrto paid for it. I don't know how much money he gave him. He sat with us for about half an hour, where we talked and laughed. Myrto had been smoking cocaine while the three of us were there. ... (the former weightlifter) left and came back a little later and brought another amount of cocaine, which Myrto was persistently asking for. At one point, ... (the 22-year-old from Albania) came, whom the former weightlifter called and came and sat with us," the 23-year-old stated before the court.
The incident raises a number of important questions, particularly regarding the reaction of the people present, who, according to investigations, did not transport the young woman to the hospital, despite being only about 500 meters from where she was found by emergency services.
According to the forensic report, the cause of death was a heart attack, while toxicology tests are expected to shed more light on the possible use of narcotics.
The three young men have been charged with "intentional homicide by omission", as well as possession and use of narcotics. They are expected to testify in the ongoing investigation process.
