The Special Prosecution Office (SPAK) has revealed details from the extensive anti-drug operation being carried out in Tirana and several other cities in the country, where so far three people suspected of being part of a criminal group have been arrested.
It is learned that Lulzim Pepaj, Florian Marku and Anton Kola have been arrested . The media reports that Lulzim Pepaj is the brother of Mir Pepaj, a well-known name in this case.
Meanwhile, by decision of the Special Court (GJKKO), a total of 11 security measures have been issued at the request of prosecutor Alfred Shehu. Among the persons for whom security measures have been imposed is Jetmir Pepaj (Marashi), for whom there is still no confirmation whether he has been arrested, as the operation continues.
According to SPAK, various assets worth around 12 million euros were seized during the operation.
Investigations show that the criminal group is suspected of having trafficked around 7.5 tons of cocaine from Latin America to European countries, in several different episodes. The drug shipments were hidden in containers with various products, such as fruit juices, bananas, tuna fish or raisins, and in some cases they seized quantities of over 1 ton.
As part of the operation, the GJKKO has imposed preventive seizure on 232 assets, including: companies and share quotas in several businesses; hotels and tourist structures; 60 real estate properties in several cities in the country; 89 vehicles; 72 bank accounts.
The operation is still ongoing, while authorities are continuing to work to capture other wanted individuals and fully uncover the criminal activity.
