A 32-year-old Albanian, wanted for the execution of a person with a firearm in Britain, has been arrested in Belgium as a suspect of murder.
The Belgian police in cooperation with the Cleveland Police, international partners and the National Crime Agency (NCA), have made it possible to arrest the wanted Eugert Merizaj.
According to British media, Hemawand Ali Hussein was found dead in Hartlepool in September 2019 due to a gunshot wound.
Cleveland police are still searching for two men in connection with Hussein's death. The persons are also Albanian citizens identified as: Sajmir Dodoveci, 38 years old and Armando Marku, 24 years old.
Four others were sentenced in connection with the incident: Eugert Merizaj, 33, was sentenced to 32 years in prison; Noza Saffari, 42 years old, 15 years in prison; Dorian Pirija, 36 years old, 19 years in prison; as well as Qazim Marku, 28, who was imprisoned for 19 years.
Eugert Merizaj persuaded Hussein to return to Chapterhouse Street, Hartlepool, in September 2019, where he was shot at point blank range. The young man managed to flee the country after the killing but was arrested in Belgium before being extradited to face his trial at Teesside Crown Court.
The plot to kill father-of-two Stockton was the culmination of a long-running feud between rival Kurdish and Albanian groups in Teesside, which included a gun battle between the two warring parties in Middlesbrough.
