For more than four hours, judicial associate Erion Alibej has provided key testimony for Belgian justice, regarding the mafia murder of Arjan Spahiu, which occurred in the Molenbeek neighborhood of Brussels in 2020. The testimony took place online, live from the premises of the GJKKO in Tirana, in the presence of SPAK prosecutor Altin Dumani and judge Erjon Bani.
The incident, which in Belgium is considered one of the most important murders with an international background, has led to the identification of Franc Çopja as the mastermind of the assassination. The latter, originally from Elbasan and residing in Dubai for years, is accused by the Belgian justice system of pure revenge and settling scores between two rival clans, after the loss of a quantity of 50 kg of cocaine in Great Britain.
According to the investigation, the victim Arjan Spahiu, known as “Little Arjan”, had close ties to the Alibej clan, through family ties to Erion Alibej, and was considered a financier and confidant of the group. At the time of the execution, he was investigating on behalf of Alibej the perpetrators of the bloody Bradashesh assassination, where three people were killed in December 2018, among them Erion’s brother, Endrit Alibej (“Tarzan”).
The letters received by the Ministry of Justice reveal that the direct perpetrators of the Molenbeek attack are suspected to be Florenc Meçe alias "Gega" and Elvis Murati. Both were arrested in Spain and Germany respectively, but were not extradited to Belgium. Albanian authorities have not provided information on the reasons for the non-extradition.
With Alibej's testimony, the Belgian justice system is trying to shed light on the bloody clash between two of the most dangerous Albanian groups in Europe: Çopja and Alibej. At the center of the war: drugs, blood, and territorial control.
