The Greek Prime Minister, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, announced the expulsion of the former conservative Prime Minister, Antonis Samaras, from the New Democracy party.
In the statement of the New Democracy Party, it is emphasized that former prime ministers have the special privilege to express their opinions and concerns on political issues from time to time, but according to them, Samaras, in his last interview, did not express any opinions. It is further noted that Samaras showed his complete disagreement with the entire government policy being implemented.
It is also written in the reaction that the former prime minister, in an inappropriate and provocative way, told extreme lies by distorting the statements of the Foreign Minister, which have been clarified repeatedly and in detail. The prime minister, Edi Rama, and the Turkish president, Ergogan, also had a hand in this exception. According to the reaction of New Democracy, Samaras went so far as to claim that the Prime Minister of Greece and the President of the Republic of Cyprus were "flirting" with the President of Turkey and the Prime Minister of Albania.
Statement of the New Democracy Party in Greece:
We have said many times that former prime ministers have the special privilege to express their opinions and concerns on political issues from time to time. However, Mr. Samaras, in his last interview, expressed no opinion. On the contrary, he showed his complete disagreement with the entire governing policy being implemented.
Moreover, in an inappropriate and provocative manner, he told extreme lies, distorting the Foreign Minister's statements, which have been clarified repeatedly and in detail. He even went so far as to claim that the Prime Minister of Greece and the President of the Republic of Cyprus were "flirting" with the President of Turkey and the Prime Minister of Albania.
Finally, the inappropriate discussion about the election of the President of the Republic, which he insisted on, constitutes an insult to the figure and institution of the head of state. All these cannot be tolerated or accepted. Society has left behind, for years, the logic of "courtyard" politics and the behaviors that are inspired by party "angers". And those who dream of a New Democracy shrunk to the level of 18%, should reflect that with the strategy of Kyriakos Mitsotakis, New Democracy has so far won three national elections with a percentage of about 40%.
Therefore, Mr. Samaras, with his interview today, has put himself, for the second time after 1993, outside the New Democracy. In fact, this is what he intended. But this time, history will not repeat itself. The government majority continues its steady path, without Mr. Samaras. No one has the right to play with the stability of the motherland in these troubled times.
