The Special Court of Appeals has remanded in prison police officer Armand Marvataj, who is suspected of having benefited from 10 thousand euros after allowing Drilon Malluta and Juxhin Koka to receive smuggled oil blocked in Durrës.
Police Officer Marvataj was assigned the task of guarding the Tanzanian ship "AYAZANOYBYA", seized on January 13 of this year with 200 tons of smuggled oil. According to SPAK, the fuel was removed in the middle of the day, around 3:00 PM on January 27 in Porto Romano, where the ship had been anchored since the seizure by court order.
AMP agents and the Durrës Police conducted a re-examination of the ship, including footage from security cameras in Porto Romano, which filmed the moments of the oil extraction, which was taken with a pipe through a pump and loaded onto the tanker. From the expertise of the samples taken from the ship, it resulted that the oil had been replaced with water.
How did the incident happen?
Durrës Police Officer Armand Marvataj, 21 years old, who was assigned the task of guarding the Tanzanian ship "AYAZANOYBYA", seized on January 13 of this year with 200 tons of smuggled oil, received a bribe of 10 thousand euros from Juxhin Koka, 31 years old, already wanted, to allow the extraction of hundreds of liters of oil from the ship, a job he did in collaboration with the ship's crew and Drilon Malluta.
In the investigation, 7 crew members, aged 22 to 53, including 1 Albanian, 5 Syrians and 1 Egyptian, were also taken into custody. The ship "Aya Zanoubya" was transporting construction materials and flying the Tanzanian flag, but had also hidden considerable quantities of oil inside. Meanwhile, another ship named "Besart" was seized with 400 tons of smuggled oil. Both operations against the smuggling of large quantities of oil were discovered and finalized with the help of the Guardia di Finanza in Durrës. It is suspected that the smuggled oil was loaded on the high seas from another naval vessel.
