A 25-year-old Albanian man has been arrested by Italian police after being involved in cocaine trafficking.
The young man had no criminal record and, according to authorities, was on a legal tourist visa under Schengen rules. Police said they are investigating the young man's possible involvement in a larger drug trafficking network.
The operation was launched during a patrol near the Cospea shopping center, where officers noticed a small car that caught their attention due to the driver's suspicious behavior. As soon as he saw the officers, the Albanian abandoned the vehicle in an attempt to escape through pedestrians.
He appeared very nervous, leading the carabinieri to physically search him and the vehicle. After verifying his identity, the officers searched the rental car, finding 62 doses of cocaine and 3,000 euros in cash, suspected proceeds from illegal activity.
The drugs were also found during a body search, with a total of 43 grams of cocaine seized, Italian media reports.
