Gëzim Çela continued his activity undisturbed until the summer of last year. In August, the Albanian police would carry out a coded operation "flames at sea" and the objective was to attack a traffic case and arrest the underdog, Gëzim Çela.
Police information was that a significant amount of drugs would be trafficked from Pataku Lagoon, which would be exchanged for cocaine on the open sea. A mechanism that only a very influential character like Çela could bring to life, since he was the person who had the contacts and opportunities to do it.
The Albanian police this time had made a good plan because the information they had was first-hand and on the morning of August 14, 2023, a dinghy loaded with cannabis headed by Besnik Brokeri and other and Arben Dalipaj. The latter, an important character known by the nickname "kapelja" and to everyone's surprise managed to escape the police in this action. Dalipaj in this case the traffic had the role of securing the cannabis and it is suspected that the drug had come from Vlora.
At the same time, in the open sea, a sailing ship was waiting, led by two Ukrainian citizens who made it possible to get the cannabis and immediately tried to escape.
But the traffickers did not know that all these actions were being followed by the police who decided to intervene. At this moment, the Ukrainians have decided to set the ship on fire, an action from which the police action got its name. When interrogated, the two foreign nationals told the Albanian police that the boat caught fire as a result of an electric shock, but the evidence collected points to a deliberate arson. At the time of the arrest they were in a small lifeboat that they had in the boathouse.
The traffickers tried to erase the tracks, but the evidence was still there, since the bags of cannabis were not completely damaged. The police had detained 3 people, two Ukrainians, and the driver of the boat.
The investigation has shown that the role of Gezim Çela in this case is that of the organizer. The suspicions of the investigators are that he is the point of contact with the two Ukrainian citizens who had arrived in Albanian territorial waters avoiding the legal way, the notification of the police in this case.
During this action, the police arrested several other people and one of them was Arlind Ismailukaj, who was handcuffed to the ground at the Royal Blue restaurant. According to the investigations, he had the role of transporting narcotics from Vlora to Patok, since he also owned a rental car business. Along with Ismailukaj, Armando Mema was also arrested, since he was in the car with him. Also, during the search of the vehicle in which he was traveling, large amounts of money were found. According to the investigators, the drugs taken in Vlora were deposited near this bar owned by Nerim Çela and then sent to the open sea from the tires that stood on the seashore.
In all this action developed in detail by the state police and its partners, it is strange how the two key people of this traffic could not be arrested by the police when the whole area was surrounded by the police both from the sea and from the earth.
Gezim Çela once again managed to avoid the police, fully deserving the nickname of the elusive. But how did it happen that he escaped again? What was said for a long time that he was helped by the police itself was proven. Two months after the "fire in the sea" operation, the head of the police station of Laçi, Dritan Metaj, was arrested. According to the investigations, he had helped the drug baron to avoid police operations and to continue drug trafficking undisturbed from the territory administered by the police of Laçi.
Hit hard by the law enforcement agencies, Gëzim Çelaj leaves Albania, hiding in Kosovo, after they considered him a safe place because of the connections and acquaintances he had there and created over the years.
But this action was not very smart as he was arrested at the end of last year and on February 27 he was extradited to Albania where he will face charges of international drug trafficking within the structured criminal group.
In this way, the escape of the drug baron, who had a very important role in drug trafficking to the countries of the European Union, ended. His ability to create connections from Turkey to Europe was very successful, keeping him for more than two decades a very important factor in drug trafficking.

The career of the 56-year-old in Albanian organized crime can be divided into two periods from the end of the 90s to 2014, when it was thought that his group was hit hard, but nothing happened like that and after this year, Çela continued to not disturb the traffic of drugs from a small country like Fushë Kuqa.

Ai për disa vite në fillim të viteve 90 shërbeu në policinë shtetit për tu larguar nga rradhën e saj në vitin 1997. Lidhjet që kishte krijuar gjatë kësaj kohe në polcinë e shtetit ai do ti përdorë gjatë dy dekadave për të shmangur disa operacione për arrestimin e tij si dhe për ti krijuar lehtësira në trafikun e drogës.
Në fund të viteve 90 ai fillon aktivitetin e tij kriminal dhe menjeherë bie në sy të autoriteteve italianë duke e cilësuar atë një personazh me peshë fillimisht në shfrytëzimin e prostitucionit dhe më pas trafikut.
Në 2003 ai dënohet me 11 vite burg në vendin fqinj dënim të cilin nuk e kreu asnjëherë atje. Cela prangoset në Shqipëri me qëllim ekstradimin por që mundi të lirohet duke perdorur një sere mekanizmash të cilat e bënë të pamundur që ai të dërgohet në Itali.
Çela sipas disa raporteve mjeko ligjore vuante nga probeleme shendetësore dhe për këtë arsye ai shmangu burgun dhe ekstradimin dhe në këtë mënyrë mund të vazhdonte tashmë i pashqetësuar aktivitetin kriminal.
Prej këtu nis ngjitja e tij kur për 10 vite me radhe nga bregdeti i Patokut ai do të trafikonte heroinë, kokainë dhe kanabis.
Linja e tij e trafikut të heroinës përfshinte një serë vendesh e cila niste në Turqi, Bullgari, Kosovë dhe më pas Shqipëri. Lidhjet që ai kishte krijuar në Itali po shfrytëzoheshin për të furnizuar më lendë narkotike kryesisht Italinë në ato vite dhe më pas edhe në vende te tjera të europës.
Informacionet agjensitë ligjzbatuese shqiptare e kishin për atë që më pas u cilësua baron i drogës por që ishte e pamundur të faktohej me prova përfshirja e tij.
Për të arritur në qershorin e vitit 2014 ku një aksion mes policisë tonë dhe asaj kosovare u bë I mundur goditja e grupit të Gezim Çelës. Disa persona u arrestuan në atë kohë në të dyja anët e kufirit por baroni i drogës për cudi arriti të shpëtontë, ai ishte i vetmi që mundi të shamngë policinë duke ngritur dyshime në atë kohë se operacioni u dekonspirua. Lajmi se në Fushë Kuqe ishin nisur forcat speciale të policisë së shtetit për të arrestuar Çelën doli më parë në media dhe në kohën që blutë mberritën në shtëpinë e objektivit nuk e gjetën atë aty.
Megjithatë në vilën e Çelës u gjetnë plot prova metariale që e lidhnin atë me trafikun e drogës. Gjatë kontrolleve u gjtën 18 kilogramë kokainë,150 kilogramë kanabis, 9 armë, 3 snajpera, makina të blinduara si përzierës që duheshin për të përgatitur drogën duke e shndërruar banesën e tij në një laborator. Në të njëjtën kohë në pikën kufitare të Morinit u arrestua me 7 kilogramë kokainë Reald Musolli i cili e kishte marrë drogën ne Prishtinë dhe do e dergontë në Fushë Kuqe.

Many at that time thought that Gezim Çela's group was hit and would no longer have the same weight in the narcotics traffic to Europe.
