A revolt of convicts broke out in the Ioannina prison, when the Greek special forces intervened to control an Albanian prisoner who was suspected of running a criminal activity from the cell.
It is about the Albanian Edmond Përbasha, variously known by the nickname "Bossi" or "Chief", for whom the police had launched a 4-month investigation.
Together, it is suspected that he had created a network of collaborators inside and outside the prison, managing to create a line of narcotics trafficking.
The EKAM and MAT special forces, together with the Internal Control Service, have intervened in the prison since 06.00 in the morning to execute several arrest warrants, but this has led to the revolt of the convicts.
The prisoners immediately started burning mattresses and other items, and it took the intervention of the fire brigade to bring the situation under control.
