The specialized court in France has sentenced 18 Albanian citizens to 2 years to 10 years in prison.
They have been on trial since Monday, January 29, for selling tens of kilograms of heroin in Rennes, Saint-Malo and Nice.
The Albanians, men aged 22 to 61, belonged to a "highly organized" network that had sold tens of kilograms of heroin in Rennes, Saint-Malo and Nice (Alpes-Maritimes).
This case was brought to light thanks to a long-term investigation launched in 2018. Information about a 50-year-old man, already known for drug trafficking, had arrived at the Prosecutor's Office. Thus it became certain that the 50-year-old led a criminal network that operated in "clan mode" and imported heroin and cocaine in the west of France as well as in Nice from the Netherlands.
The investigation , led by an investigating judge from JIRS, made it possible to distinguish "two separate cells" in Ille-et-Vilaine, one in Rennes and the other in Saint-Malo.
A wave of arrests took place in March 2021 where heroin, cutting products, weapons, 68 thousand euros in cash and packaging equipment were seized. A 24-year-old man, believed to be the head of the Malouine cell, was arrested at his partner's home in Miniac-Morvan in Ille-et-Vilaine.
A key was discovered there, which was revealed during the trial and which led investigators to a box in Dinard where they found weapons and 1.6 kg of heroin.
The partner's father also reported discovering €29,000 buried in his garden in April 2021. His son-in-law's DNA was identified on bags containing the cash.
During his indictment, the public prosecutor requested up to 12 years in prison for the fifty-year-old, this "declining leader", the Prosecution underlined, who "made the connection between these three cells". He was eventually sentenced to 10 years in prison. Arrest warrants have also been issued for those who were absent from court.
Some were recently arrested in Germany and the Netherlands, but could not be extradited in time. Permanent bans from French territory have also been granted. Meanwhile, a luxury house in Albania has been confiscated by French justice.
