Footage has been released of the moment a 26-year-old former weightlifter drags an unconscious 19-year-old woman from a hotel room in Kefalonia, in an event that has shocked public opinion.
According to security camera footage , the young man is seen holding the unconscious girl in his arms and rushing out of the hotel. He is then suspected of abandoning her in a nearby public area at around 4:30 a.m. After this moment, authorities suspect that he, in collaboration with another arrested person, attempted to cover up the incident.
According to the testimony of the girl's 23-year-old partner, the young men had been consuming cocaine and at one point the 19-year-old felt unwell. He stated that the 26-year-old picked her up and took her to a nearby park, where she was later found by emergency services.
Those involved called the ambulance, but left as soon as it arrived, claiming to the rescue teams that they did not know the girl. Another person stayed in the room until around 05:15 and then left the scene.
According to the data, the two young men are suspected of having also taken the 19-year-old's personal belongings, including her cell phone, in an attempt to hide the evidence. Later, one of them surrendered to the police after consulting with his lawyer, giving his version of the incident.
The death of 19-year-old Myrto in Kefalonia is suspected to have been caused by cardiac arrest, according to preliminary forensic expertise. However, the exact cause remains unclear and is expected to be determined by toxicology tests.
The incident is the focus of Greek authorities, while local media have also published a photo from the place where the young woman was found unconscious in the early hours of Easter Tuesday. It is the central square of Argostoli, opposite the hotel where she was staying with three young men, aged 23, 26 and 22.
According to police data, the 19-year-old had gone to the hotel around midnight on Easter Monday together with a 23-year-old. At around 02:00, she is suspected of having consumed cocaine, while later a 26-year-old arrived in the room, who brought the narcotic substance and used it with them.
After an hour, the 26-year-old left and returned with another quantity, this time accompanied by a 22-year-old Albanian, who according to police sources had not consumed drugs.
At one point, the 19-year-old lost consciousness. According to the investigation, after the incident, the 23-year-old returned to the room and cleaned the area where the cocaine was allegedly consumed, while also hiding her cell phone.
Greek police have confirmed the arrest of three young men, who are accused of the criminal offense of “exposure to danger.” Investigations are ongoing to fully clarify the circumstances of the incident and the responsibilities of each of those involved.
