New details have emerged from the serious incident that occurred yesterday evening in the town of Memaliaj, in Tepelena, where as a result of gunfire, 30-year-old Endri Goxhaj lost his life and another person was injured.
According to preliminary data, the suspected perpetrator is Donald Nelaj, who is a well-known name to the justice system due to his previous criminal record.
Investigations show that Nelaj has been involved in criminal activities since a young age, mainly in the field of drug trafficking. In 2018, during an operation by the Saranda Police, over 32 kilograms of cannabis and a “BMW X5” vehicle were seized. At the time, he was suspected of acting in collaboration with other persons as part of a criminal group.
Also, from the investigations at the time, it appears that Nelaj and an associate of his had threatened the life of a person who was suspected of having mediated their contacts with other members of the group from Tepelena.
According to official data, Donald Nelaj was convicted in 2018 for drug trafficking as part of a criminal group.
The incident in Memaliaj is being investigated, while authorities are working to fully clarify the circumstances and motive.
According to sources from the investigation group, it is suspected that the murder was not a spur-of-the-moment act, but a planned crime. It is learned that the victim was continuously followed in his daily routine, until the moment of execution.
Sources close to the investigators indicate that the entire dynamics of the event are being analyzed in detail, while at this stage there is still no final version on how it was organized. As part of the investigations, several people have been questioned, whose testimonies are being kept confidential due to the investigative process.
